Sheffield's Centre for HIV and Sexual Health and the SHOUT! Centre are organising a free event for the city's lesbian, gay and bisexual communities. Spring Out 2007 is the fifth event of its kind in Sheffield and takes place on Saturday 19th May between 9.30am and 4.30pm, with the aim of promoting the health and well-being of lgb communities.

Anthony Bains from the Centre for HIV and Sexual Health says: ‘Some lesbian, gay and bisexual people can often feel quite isolated and there may be a tendency to focus on the negative aspects of being gay. Spring Out 2007 will be a fun, celebratory event encouraging people to consider ways of looking after their health and well-being and building their social networks. Spring Out has been consistently well-attended since it began in 2002 and we intend to build on that success this year by providing a diverse range of workshops and discussions that celebrate lgb communities in Sheffield.’

Richard Jorda from the SHOUT! Centre adds: ‘There are lots of great, very hard working community groups in Sheffield and this is an opportunity for everyone to get together, build the sense of community and take part in workshops and discussions in a safe and fun environment.’

Workshops and activities planned include art, sexual health, singing, facials, aromatherapy, diverse lgb communities and creative writing. There will also be the first public performance from Sheffield’s new lgbt choir and there will also be an exclusive social event in the evening with free tickets for those who attend during the day.
