Anthony Morley, the first winner of the Mr Gay UK competition, has been charged with the murder of Damian Oldfield, a 33 year-old man who, in an ironic twist, works for All Points North, the company that runs Mr Gay UK.
It’s alleged that Morley stabbed Oldfield to death in Harehills, Leeds, on April 24th.
Police were were apparently alerted after a man, wearing a white nightgown and covered in blood, entered a nearby kebab shop and made suspicious comments.
Local press have reported that police discovered that chunks of the victim’s leg had been cut off and were in a saucepan on the stove. The Yorkshire Evening Post reported that ‘Horrified detectives then found a diced up section of flesh on a kitchen worktop which had been cooked. Tests proved the flesh was human. Officers are now having to consider the possibility that the killer had eaten some of the flesh.’
In a statement, West Yorkshire Police said: ‘Police were called to Bexley Place in Harehills at 2.30am on Thursday, April 24th. On arrival officers discovered the body of a 33 year old man.’
They’ve declined to comment further.
Morley appeared in court and spoke only to confirm his name and address. Oldfield (pictured) was an employee of All Points North, the company owning Bent magazine, the Mission nightclub and Fibre bar in Leeds and the Mr Gay UK brand. Morley won the first Mr Gay UK competition (in its present form) in 1993.
In the printed edition of Shout!, the headline for this article mistakenly said 'Mr Gay Uk contestant murdered'. As this article makes clear, the contestent has been charged with murder. We apologise for the mistake.
