Sunday August 17th is the day to mark in your diary: organisers of the second annual Doncaster Pride have released details of this year’s event and extended an open invitation to everyone to come and join in the biggest party of the year.

‘Pride events are non-political, non-campaigning events designed to be a festival of fun and celebration for the lgbt community, family, friends and supporters,’ they say. ‘ And following a similar format to the hugely successful inaugural Pride of 2007 this year’s event will again centre around a live stage in the Market Place with over six hours of live performances from a line up that organisers are still working on - but have promised will include something for everyone.’

The event will feature a parade - starting at 2pm - that will end in the Market Place and hand over straight into the live show starting at 3pm and going on ‘til around 9pm. In addition to the parade and the live show there will be a market, which again will be a mix of information, advice and guidance stalls and commercial stalls selling a range of goods. Plans also include street entertainment, food provision, outside bars and a fairground.

Chair of Doncaster Pride, Trevor Jones said: ‘We have a lot to do. We are currently looking for sponsorship and would welcome contact from any individual or organisation who wants to be a part of this huge event. Our marketing and promotion of the event covers the entire country through our associations with national organisations that promote Pride events - so we can offer great sponsorship packages with good exposure.

‘We’re also looking for individuals or groups who would like to get involved in the event either through the parade, as a performer, a helper, a market stall holder, local community groups. Please just get in touch!’

Marketing and PR coordinator Jenny Dewsnap said: ‘Last year’s event was not only a celebration of the positive contribution the lgbt community play in today’s society but more than that it was an event for Doncaster. What we saw were families, gay and straight people having fun - together - irrespective of the way they live their life they all came together and had a great day.’

The event is fully supported and funded by local agencies and organisations and is being co-ordinated by The Doncaster Pride Committee. If you would like to get involved in any way please contact the organising committee through the website.
