‘Bigger, better and pinker....’
in the news
from March 2009

This is what the Doncaster Pride committee is promising for the third annual event - which is to be staged on Sunday 16th August in the Market Place.

Last year’s event smashed all expectations and saw a huge crowd pack the Market Place for the six-hour live show, with over 5,000 people enjoying performances from a diverse range of performers including The Kylie Experience, Sign, Tobias and headlining act Katrina Leskanich (of Katrina and the Waves).

‘This year’s plans are to go bigger and better yet again,’ said Pride Chair Trevor Jones. ‘Although we’ve already set the bar so high, we’re really going to have to pull out the stops for the 2009 event. We’re already well on with the planning and although we’ve a long way to go, we can promise that we’ll top last year. We’re looking at the event as a whole. Not just the quality of the performers, but the food provision, comfort, safety and general enjoyment are all very important to us - we want people to have a great day out.’

Vice Chair Jenny Dewsnap added: ‘We have seen huge growth over the first two years and we have no reason to doubt we can grow again, we believe Doncaster Pride has established itself now on the UK Pride calendar and considering our 2007 event was the first ever Pride in South Yorkshire we are extremely proud of our achievements. We now have Sheffield Pride and Barnsley, too, is this year hoping to stage their first event - which is great news.’
