New clubs in Yorkshire
on the scene
from May 2007

Despite the tragedy that hit Bradford’s Club Life, there’s been an absolute outbreak of new clubs and bars in West Yorkshire: Candy in Bradford, Religion in Leeds, Nefertiti in Huddersfield and Odyssey in Wakefield.

Nefertiti has been open for a month or so now, and may be familiar to some people as the former Lily’s - with a sparkly new makeover! Candy is just up from the former S29 Club in Bradford and hopefully will compensate for the loss of Club Life.

Odyssey is the new name for the totally revamped Club DNA in Wakefield - and should be up-and-running by this time next month.

And on May 26th, Leeds sees the opening of its first brand-new gay venue for years: at 9pm the doors to Religion will open to the public. Religion replaces the former club Oslo on Lower Briggate and has undergone a dramatic transformation. ‘The décor is mainly glass and steel,’ they say, ‘and will enable you, upon entering the club, to see the entire length of the 450-capacity venue through to the main private lounge at the far end, and already promises to provide many an exclusive party to come.’

With local, national and international DJs and a late license, the aim is to create an attitude-free zone with a comfortable vibe aimed at the over 25 crowd with its dress code ranging from clubbing casual to chic.

‘On the opening weekend,’ they add, ‘you will be invited to worship at the altar of DJ Criss Reardon, especially brought down from Heaven.

They’re currently recruiting: contact them on 0796 143 130 if you’re interested!
