Yorkshire MESMAC are delighted that Baroness Gould of Potternewton (or Joyce to everyone who knows her) has agreed to become a patron of the charity. Born and bred in Leeds and educated at what is now Bradford University, Baroness Gould has had a distinguished and varied career that has included being a dispenser, trade unionist and politician. Amongst her many other achievements, she is the Chair of the Independent Advisory Group on Sexual Health and HIV, monitoring and advising the government on national sexual health and HIV strategy.
Baroness Gould said: ‘As a Yorkshire person myself, I am delighted to be supporting the work of Yorkshire MESMAC. I especially welcome the fact that as a group of services it works not only in the densely-populated but also the most deeply rural parts of Yorkshire, recognising that HIV has broken out of the large cites and now affects all our communities.’
Tom Doyle, Director of Yorkshire MESMAC said: ‘To have a patron of the calibre of Joyce is a massive boon to the group of services, she is well known as a woman of huge intellect, and as a doughty fighter for those causes she feels strongly about, not least of which has been HIV and sexual health.’
Also throwing his considerable talent behind the work of Yorkshire MESMAC is Emmerdale’s heartthrob Mathew Bose. Bose has been a long-time supporter of events and charities that support lgbt communities and that raise money for people living with HIV.
‘As a gay man myself living and working in Yorkshire I know how important it is for services like Yorkshire MESMAC to exist ensuring that we all have the knowledge skills and resources we need to make informed choices about our sexual health’, said Bose.
