on the scene from November 2006
Mission in Leeds has had something of a refit recently. No, let’s be honest: it hasn’t just had a refit - it somehow feels like they’ve crammed a whole new club into the arches.
When you have a wander around, you can see how they’ve done it - and you can see how they managed to spend around a million quid: the light and sound are fantastic, and the end arch is now a two-level chill-out area, with loads of outdoor space (ready for when those pesky no-smoking laws come in next year). What was previously the Arch 54 bar is now Mission Annexe where the exceedingly gay - and exceedingly fabulous - Poptastic and Peach take place on the 2nd and last Saturdays.
The main club, though, is where it all really sparkles, especially on a Saturday night where, from 11pm through to 9am it’s the new home of mixed club night Glasshouse. And it really is a stonker! Even if the crowd’s predominantly straight, they’re immensely gay-friendly (and there’s loads of fun to be had flirting with ‘em!). The only disappointment is that they’ve wasted space on the - admittedly gorgeous - swanky VIP area, when it could have been yet another dancefloor, although after 4am, the Annexe is opened up, too! This is a club that’s just made for dancing your arse off, not lounging around!
