The Bridge and Xibit are launching their Christmas Appeal for 2006 this month. Entitled Give a Child a Smile, it hopes to collect gifts for underprivileged children throughout the Leeds area.
‘Everyone knows someone with children or indeed may have some of their own,’ says David Dabell from the two venues. ‘Imagine if you were unable to provide a present for them at Christmas through no fault of your own. Through the generosity of our customers, we hope to move a little closer to helping bring a little hope and light into the festive period.’
Dabell points out that some women - in women’s refuges as a result of domestic violence - may not be able to provide for their children.
‘Many children in children’s homes and hospitals don’t have a lot to look forward to at Christmas, with the donation of just a few small gifts we can make this year a better one for them.’
There are a number of ways to donate to the appeal says Dabell: ‘Donate a toy or game for either a boy or girl. Wrap the gift and place the following information on the label. Suitable for…… (Boy or Girl) and suitable age.
‘Toiletries. Donate some toiletries to help people in refuges that find it hard to make ends meet at this time of year. Just an odd extra item bought in your weekly shop can help immensely.
‘Money. Not everyone can find the time to go out and shop for extra things at this time of year. If you would rather donate a little money, then we can go and buy presents and gifts on your behalf. ‘
All gifts and presents etc will be delivered to beneficiaries during the week commencing 18th December. More details are available from The Bridge or Xibit.
