With two events sold out well before the start of celebrations and around 500 people attending the wide range of gigs and happenings at Bradford University on Saturday 11th October, Bradford Pride, now in its third year, continues to go from strength to strength. The Bradford Pride celebrations are organised by the Equity Partnership, working with volunteers making up a Pride committee and a number of partner organisations including local venues Rafters, The Sun and Candy, and agencies including Bradford Council’s lgb focus group.
Principal organiser of the Pride celebrations on behalf of the Equity Partnership, Rachel Nauwelerts, told Shout!: ‘We are very pleased with the diversity of events, encompassing both entertainment and culture, we have been able to stage during October and early November, thanks to an amazing commitment from a large number of people from within Bradford’s lgb community and outside of it. We have also learned a lot which we’ll be taking on board for an even bigger and better Bradford Pride next year.’
Highlights included Angela Lewis Brown, Gay Abandon, Hazel Dean; Kinisha (Tina Turner Experience), Rowetta and Secret’s Out. Miss Rosie, Missy Mincing and Miss Marigold Adams each added their own special brand of entertainment to the day.
Thick heads were given an airing on Sunday 12th October with a ‘Pride walk’, starting in Bradford’s World Heritage Village - Saltaire - and climbing over Shipley Glen to arrive at that well-known Yorkshire hostelry, Dick Hudson’s.
The celebrations will formally close at the Equity Partnership’s AGM at the Equity Centre on November 6th, which will have a fireworks theme. All are welcome to this event which will have both formal and social proceedings and include the official opening of the new Equity Partnership offices and extended training facilities. To attend please contact the Equity Partnership on 01274 727759.
