Tickets are selling fast for YLAF 2008 - the York Lesbian Arts Festival, Europe’s biggest lesbian festival. Running from October 23rd-26th, the event should see thousands of lesbians descending upon York to celebrate, socialise and get involved in the dozens of workshops, book readings, performances and celebrity discussions that are on offer.
Kicking off on the 23rd are games and music at the Love Lottery. For Sapphic bookworms, the book festival on Friday and Saturday daytime at York Racecourse features readings, discussion and fun with the likes of L Worder; Guinevere Turner, Val McDermid, Stella Duffy and Radclyffe. Those of you who enjoy the best in music and comedy need look no further than York’s Grand Opera House for the Friday night concert. Hosted by Belinda O’Hooley, the night promises 900 lucky lesbians the opportunity to see Greymatter, Clare Summerskill, Jen Brister and New York’s finest, Erin McKeown, all in one fabulous night.
Club Diva promises to be Europe’s biggest lesbian dance party with DJ Jane Czyzelska spinning the grooves alongside Leeds top DJs The Lady Poofs, Sadie Lee and Black Angel’s Claud Cunningham. And then there’s the free Sunday lunchtime ‘Lesbian Herstory’ at the Priory Centre. Music by Belinda O’Hooley and Heidi with two-piece female reggae/pop/ska/soul band The Moot, plus speakers exploring the amazing achievements of lesbian writers and activists from the 60s, 70s and 80s. All in all, a weekend packed to the drawstring with everything an intelligent lesbian could wish for!
YLAF 2008 runs from 23rd-26th October.
