Organisers of this year’s Doncaster Pride have claimed they have seen the largest growth of any Pride in the UK with the announcement of their figures for the event held last Sunday.
In only their second year they have seen figures rise from 1,500 to 5,000. (figures from South Yorkshire Police and Central CCTV Control).
Organisers say the mix of great weather and a fantastic line up encouraged people in their droves to join in the party held in Doncaster Market place.
Pride Committee Chair Trevor Jones said: ‘It was a fabulous day, we have received so much positive feedback from all sectors of the community and quite frankly we can’t wait to get on with planning next year - we have raised the bar so high though we’re not sure how we’re going to top this year’s show - but you can bet we will!’
The show was a mix of home-grown talent and acts from further afield including the ever popular Sign who were flown in for the event from their home in Iceland by sponsors Corona. The Kylie Experience (pictured) had the crowd eating out of her hand in her two glittering performances and headlining act Katrina Leskanich closed the show with electric performances of her hits Walking on Sunshine and Love Shine a Light.
Jones concluded: ‘What a great, great day and I personally want to thank all our sponsors for making this event possible and all our committee and volunteers for working so hard to pull off an amazing event.’
Plans are already in place for Doncaster Pride on 16th August 2009. Photo galleries are currently being uploaded, and details of the event and how to get involved in 2009 can all be found the website below.
